Reading Blog 7

There are many ways that describe how Spike Lee's film, "Bamboozled", can have a direct affect and terminology from chapter 7. It focuses our attention on racial slurs and stereotypes in a comedy form of explaining the meaning of the film. The film is mostly targeted to show how racism is in our society today. Stereotypes is a good example of the film. All the characters are picked on and our pointed out, the use of offensive language is too much, and many racial slurs are used to point out the stereotypes in the film. It gives us a sort of anger or frustration toward our point of view of the film and when the characters were shown throughout the film there were different ethnicity describing each ones personality and how they reacted toward each other by always using offensive, racist language. Another way of describing the film is the setting in which the characters have there TV show filmed at. The producers of the show use a drop set to show were the characters live in and this refers to diasporas, to show were they came from, especially with the sound of music in the back round making the setting of musical diasporas. This how these terms compare to the film Bamboozled.

  1. I think you did a great job at showing how racist the film was. It had excessive language and made rude racial remarks. The movie makes it seem like it's okay to degrade someone culture for entertainment purposes.

  2. This movie did have some extreme stereotypes in it, but it also showed how people still embrace these stereotypes today. This movie shows them as humorous and that perpetuates these stereotypes even more by making it acceptable to enjoy them. At the same time, would recognizing these traits and labeling them as blatant stereotypes make them lose their power over people?
